Balos Lagoon Cruise – A Must-See Destination in Crete
Balos is one of the most famous lagoons in the world and a must-see destination during your stay in Crete. The tour begins with a comfortable coach ride from your hotel to the port of Kissamos, where a ship will be waiting to take you to the island of Imeri Gramvousa. Known as the “pirate island,” Imeri Gramvousa lies 20 km northwest of Kissamos. During the cruise, you’ll learn about the fascinating history of the island and witness the stunning phenomenon of land emerging from the sea.
Once on Imeri Gramvousa, you’ll have the chance to explore the Venetian fortress, offering breathtaking views, including that of the Balos lagoon. You’ll need approximately 30 minutes (one way) to walk to the fortress, after visit the fortees you will have plenty of time to swim in the crystal-clear sea and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. After about two hours on the island, the ship will take you to the Balos Lagoon, where you can relax for around 2.5 hours in this paradise.
If you didn’t have the chance to eat on board, there’s a canteen at the lagoon where you can buy drinks, snacks, and ice cream. After 2.5 hours at Balos, the ship will return you to Kissamos. You’ll be back at your hotel by approximately 18:30-19:00.

The tour itinerary may change, and the order of destinations may vary. After reaching the port in Kissamos, the captain will inform you whether the ship will first visit Balos Lagoon or Gramvousa.

Each time, the tour price, seat availability, and booking must be confirmed through a separate email from us containing a voucher required to present when boarding the coach. The email following the reservation will also include information regarding payment for the tour, the exact pick-up location, and the specific pick-up time.
