We invite you to a beautiful place where you can get closer to nature. In 2003, a great tragedy occurred in the mountain village – a fire that consumed about a thousand tsounati olive trees, over 400 years old! In this place, on the ashes of the fire, the idea of creating a botanical garden was born.
The garden is one of a kind in all of Europe. You can see thousands of species of plants here, including fruit trees such as kiwi, kumquat, tangerines, artichokes (their flowers are beautiful!), and banana trees, among many others. You will also experience how nature gives birth to incredibly aromatic spices, which are used in cuisines around the world. The colors and scents of ornamental flowers, the sounds of birdsong, and the presence of wild animals – all of this will bring you as close to nature as possible. A walk through the greenery on the shady mountain slope is a real pleasure.
While wandering the garden, you’ll also encounter a mini zoo with animals such as donkeys, fallow deer, turtles, and colorful peacocks. You might even catch sight of rare black bees, once considered extinct in 2002!
After your walk among hundreds of plant species, and in the company of animals and insects, you’ll enjoy a delicious meal made from vegetables and fruits from the garden, seasoned with aromatic spices and olive oil. Dishes such as horta, tzatziki, and chicken in oranges with lime and lemongrass will be served in a charming tavern on a quiet terrace with stunning views of the botanical garden. Moments spent in this peaceful place will give you a chance to relax, reflect on the daily rush, and appreciate what we often overlook – nature’s incredible power, which sustains life itself.
